Curatorial team of the ShowOFF Section 2016

This year the curatorial team comprises: Kuba Bąkowski, Simon Karlstetter, Lidia Popiel, Agnieszka Rayss and Honza Zamojski.

 

 

Kuba Bąkowski makes photographs, installations, and kinetic objects. He is inspired by new technologies and issues tied to various fields of science, anthropology and natural history. His work has been presented at Zachęta – National Gallery of Art and the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Warsaw, Museum Moderner Kunst in Vienna, Artspace in Sydney, the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow, and Chelsea Art Museum in New York.

 

 

 

 

Simon Karlstetter lives and works in Augsburg and Munich. He is using photography, drawing, manual printing-techniques, performance, music and sound in his works. He is the founder and one of the artistic directors of the internationally renowned and award-winning project for photography and literature "Der Greif". He is also a co-founder of the interdisciplinary artist-collective STUDIO FURIO, that unites dance, theatre, music and media art. He is giving lectures and talks about his work.

 

 

 

 

Lidia Popiel is a photographer and a lecturer in the photography department of the Warsaw Film School. The editor-in-chief of the fineLIFE.pl Internet magazine, she has been professionally active as a photographer for thirty years. She has worked with many of leading magazines, advertising agencies, and institutions, and has also served as Ambassador of Polish Amber. She hosted a program on the Polsat Cafételevision channel, and Home & Market monthly named her one of the most influential women in Poland. She also writes press columns and participates in social initiatives. Her latest project involves work at photography fairs and Photo Culture magazine.

 

 

 

 

Agnieszka Rayss is a freelance photographer based in Warsaw, Poland. She is a co-founder of SputnikPhotos (www.sputnikphotos.com), a collective of photojournalists from Central/Eastern European countries. She has won several international awards, including the POYI. Her interests include post-communist societies in their attempt to follow Western models, the cultural aspects of transformation, and topics related to history of the region and ecology.

 

 

 

 

Honza Zamojski is an artist, editor, publisher, and book designer. The founder of Morava Publishers (2010–2012, www.moravabooks.com) and Mundin Publishers (2013–2014, www.mundin.org), he has won many awards and distinctions. He has participated in many exhibitions, and wrote a series of lectures titled How It Is Done (presented in such places as Centre Pompidou, MoMA Library NY, and TypoTalks Berlin). For his publication Jak jsem potkal dáblahe received the Bronze Medal in the Most Beautiful Book in the World in 2010 competition. In 2011 he was also named winner of the Radio House of Culture Poll organized by Polish Radio Program 3, receiving the title of Culture Maker of the Year.
